Welcome to Lilou and Leo!

Welcome to Lilou and Leo! We are fresh out of the womb and ready to take on the internet (as most newborns are these days!).

To introduce myself my names Aleisha and I’m a 22 year old who is originally from Perth but in recent years made the move to Melbourne. Growing up I have always had a thing for homewares and fashion, annnnd by that I mean changing my room around every few months and shopping at really exclusive boutiques such as Bardot, Supre and surf shops.

After finishing high school I had no plan. But that was ok, because everyone was using the same line.

“Yeah I’m having a gap year, just trying to figure out what I want to do”.

Sadly the expiration date on that line lasted a year, and whenever mentioned after, it got a strange look.

So I decided to pack my bags and move to the U.S to be an au pair. After 8 months of my host children laughing every time I said I was going to put my thongs on, I decided to return back to Perth for summer and bum out for a bit.

That lasted a few months until I realised that I had got bitten. After months of visits to the doctors, I was finally diagnosed with the travel bug. Of course treatment is very expensive and I didn’t have the funds to keep travelling around. So I compromised and moved to Melbourne (why go to Luna Park when you’ve been to Disneyland I know).

Working as a nanny for about a year was fun, until it just wasn’t anymore. Don’t get me wrong, having a job where you can wear active wear everyday and get cuddles and laughs almost all the time is great, but I was looking for more brain stimulation than just reading the same Thomas the tank engine book 24 times in one hour. I ended up going to Europe for a few months, one of the main reasons was to relax and to not put so much pressure on myself that I hadn’t found my “dream job” yet.

This is where the Lilou and Leo story begins.

After wandering into a little clothing and homewares store in Greece I uttered to myself “I’d love to own a shop like this one day, I just feel happy whenever I’m in stores like this” and BOOM, just like that, I was already thinking of shop names on the ferry out of there.

I always knew I wanted my store to be a representation of myself and the things I loved, so the name had to embody that as well. Lilou ( pronounced LIE - LOW ) came to me while sitting on the ferry and for some reason I couldn’t get it out of my head, the name had a beachy/ coastal flow to it and I loved it. Leo is my 4 year old toy cavoodles name and the two just synced up really nicely.

I’m happy that Lilou and Leo has started in a time where I’ve now matured and am ready to kick some butt in the business world. 18 - 21 year old Aleisha couldn’t even stay in one place for to long let alone open a store, so I’m glad I got to enjoy my time and (as cliché as it is) learn about myself and not just do a course or degree for the hell of it.

If you’ve made it this far down thank you so much for following the Lilou and Leo story, your support means everything to us and we hope you enjoy your shopping experience.
